I have some good news for all of us, we're killing off the sign-off threads. We all loved them, right, and they had their time. Farewell, dear friends.
What's next is https://l10n-stage-sj.mozilla.org/, which is going to be l10n.mozilla.org at some point. It is already having a bunch more things than just sign-off, and will have more, but let's focus on sign-off for the sake of this post.
For those that like screencasts and not reading, I've created one, that hopefully guides you through the steps. http://vimeo.com/9194006 for your viewing pleasure, just 5 mins. (*)
Here's the rough script:
* Go to https://l10n-stage-sj.mozilla.org/ (https, not http, there's nobody listening on port 80) * Go to "Localization Teams" * Find your teams page. This should get you to https://l10n-stage-sj.mozilla.org/teams/[locale code] * That page should eventually hold information or links relevant to you * There's a link down at the end to "Dashboard with signoffs for ...", follow that * Find yourself at a dashboard mostly as you're used to. There's an additional column, called sign-offs. * For the tree that you want to sign off on, follow that link * Sign in with your ldap credentials at the bottom left. * Pushes are shown from the left to the right, getting older. The tooltip over the changesets is your check-in comment. * self-review the diff, which is against the currently accepted sign-off. (That one itself is in a green box.) * If things are good, push the "signoff" button. * navigate back to your signoff dashboard, and find that there is now a pending signoff mentioned.
Drivers for the apps will go through those signoffs and regularly review them. They can then either accept them (updating the changeset for the next update), or reject them. At that point they should tell you why. Which will be more automatic than that.
I've imported data for fx, fennec, seamonkey, tb. You should cross-check if that's right.
Bugs on the site should go in "Mozilla Localizations", "Infrastructure" and have a summary starting with [dashboard]. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Mozilla Localizations&component=Infrastructure&rep_platform=All&op_sys=All&short_de sc=[dashboard] gets you there.
That mail is long enough, and there's more to talk about in other threads. Feel free to use the newsgroup again for real communication :-)
Hope you'll like it
Axel
(*)/PS: that's my first screencast evvar, be gentle.
Over the past several months, many localizers asked for a tool like this and now you have it. PLEASE, please, please take a look at the details of Axel's email below and then experiment with this new tool. This is a very big change in how we have asked localizers to manage the revisions of their work from Mercurial and will make the reporting of your change sets so much easier.
Now, let's all join together in one last massive email thread by piling on our thanks to Gandalf and Axel who are the two masterminds behind this application. Axel conceived the idea and wrote the initial code. Gandalf co-developed it, helping to bring the entire project to the finish. It's a terrific accomplishment and my personal thanks goes out to them in this public forum.
Thanks guys, this is going to make everyone's life much easier.

Thanks to all who made this move possible!
One question though:
> * Sign in with your ldap credentials at the bottom left.
I assume my user name is the one I use for my hg account, but what's the password? I have only used the account together with my ssh key, and are not aware of having any password.
Big thanks goes to everyone involved in getting this up and ready, it'll be really helpful.

I suggest to reverse the order. This view is some kind of timeline and therefore it should be left-to-right ordered with the most recent push on the right. I was just looking at the signoffs and the first diff I've intuitively clicked on was the one on the right next to the currently accepted signoff.
Another suggestion: move the Sign off button into the diff view and make "diff" link a button. Why? - localizer should review the diff he wants to sign off - when doing so he needs to open and close to diff, closing the diff is currently with no action, just with a decision in mind - if the button was on the diff page, it would avoid localizers from clicking the button accidentally, like I just did :)

Yea, I also hate the way its laid out now. It's against the common sense for most cultures (time demensioning and visualization is culture dependent), but on the other hand, websites are layed out from left to right (for most cultures as well).
So if we reverse the order, you'll have the oldest ones on the left and you'll have to scroll (or we will scroll) to the right for you and you will have to click to unveil new things (older checkins) coming from the left which is against the way we think of websites.
We may end up doing this vertically instead of horizontally, we don't know.
Oh, if you have an idea of how the UI should look like, please, please, support us with a mockup. Even in MS Pain(t)! I'd love to see another approach to the UI that we could use.
Thanks for the feedback! We're proud and happy to present what we have, and we know it requires much more work! :)

I fully agree, thanks a real lot for this tremendously cool work!

Hi Axel, Gandalf and other folks,
just wanted to say that this is Absolutely Awesome, thanks a lot for your work! Hope those sign-off threads will die ASAP.

This looks really great. Thank You.
The day before you posted this, I did a sign-off for tb30x, but your new dashboard still shows the old sign-off. Should I wait for the dashboard to be updated, or should I sign off again using the new dashboard?

You could turn the table 90 degrees, then there would be no scrolling
1) Maybe the more-recent-pushes should be at the left, yes, it could be confusing and anti-natural for the occidental culture, but I think it's better since it is not neccessary to scroll to the right to see the actual push.
2) Anyway, I think that could be nice to "hide" the pushes that are at the right of the page if the actual sign-off is far from the entries of the screen (and show 4 or 5 and then the actual sign-off)
3) The table by Jesper could be very nice, but I would change the new revs to the top, and the older to the bottom (new to old).

One more thing, when you click in the "Sign-off" button, the new page shows the infobar at the bottom (, but I think that should not be hided automatically (and less to be too quick as actual).

Arg, sorry for sent this in different replies:
1) If I sing-off a new rev for example in Firefox 3.6 and then I change to the Thunderbird page, it shows at the bottom that I have asked for a revision and a new signoff for Firefox (should be this shown? or not?)
And another idea, if I want to see the diff for Thunderbird, maybe I don't want to see the differences in any part of the tree that actually is not used for Thunderbird. For example, collapse automatically "browser, suite" and things not used for Thunderbird, or "mail, suite" for Firefox…

Not typo, bug. The Milestone name is composed of app name, major version and minor version, and it concats all three by ' '. Which is great if the minor version is Beta 2 or RC 1. It sucks for .5. Gotta fix that to only use ' ' for the latter if the minor version doesn't start with a '.'.

As a note, this is really true, all those apps can work with that tool now!
SeaMonkey 2.0.3 for example will be shipped off the currently accepted revisions in the tool, and further 2.0.x opt-ins / sign-offs should be done there!

Thank you very much for the work, We'll miss (or not) the sign-off threads from now on. :-)

AFAIK, LDAP credentials were originally tied to SVN access, which I never asked for (I requested back in 2006 a CVS account and that's how I got the current Mercurial one). Should I ask for a new LDAP account, or do I already have an (unknown) LDAP account to be resetted?
> (*)/PS: that's my first screencast evvar, be gentle.
Very professional, indeed; it is a pity Oscar's nominees are set and done. :-)

Just file a bug on mozilla.org, server operations, and CC me. Note that it's an account in the hg_l10n group.

I will not be using the new dashboard functionality for TB 3.0.2, but will start to use it for TB 3.0.3 and onwards as well as for TB 3.1 beta1 and the following TB 3.1 releases.
Therefore please continue to opt-in for TB 3.0.2 in the opt-in thread that is still open until that release is out of the door.

I Agree with that. We don't have to search the newsgroup anymore trying to find the current post for opt-ins. Thanks Gandalf and Axel.
I loved the idea when you presented it in Prague. I love it even more after using it :D.
Congratulations to all!
Who can sign-off on pt-PT changeset? If possible, I'd prefer if it was me and/or Carlos Simão (he usually covers my ass when the work is requiring my full-time attention).

Anyone with an l10n hg account can sign-off for anything. We currently don't bind anyone to any project/locale combo, though I personally would probably check back if it occured to me that the person doesn't belong to a particular locale.
Not sure if we'll need anything more strict, I assume that to be a non-issue and not spend time on it unless reality proves me wrong.
Bottom line, from what I can tell, Carlos can opt-in, under the assumption that he does so in agreement with you. I'd consider that to make him a peer of browser, and as such a proper fallback for real life.
