I have several Google CalDAV calendars in Lightning (latest nightly). Whenever I "Cancel" an Event (Options / Status / Cancelled), the Event *disappears* from Lightning.
Is this a bug with Lightning, or does Google's Calendar hide/delete events once they are marked as "canceled"?
Even though an event might be canceled, users might still want to later see the details of that event. I therefore consider this a *dataloss* issue.
PS. It would be great if canceled and tentative events were *visually identifiable* - e.g., via opacity or by making them paler than "confirmed" events.
PPS. Thunderbird's spell checker (en-us) thinks "cancelled" is misspelled. It seems to prefer "canceled" (one L). dictionary.reference.com is OK with two "L"s but seems to indicate that double-L is British. In that case, the UI in the en-US version of Lightning should spell it with *one* "L" ("Canceled"). -- Regards,

... otherwise they would simply *delete* the Event. -- Regards,

What happens if you execute the same action in Google's web UI?

I can't find any UI on the Google Calendar to cancel an even (only delete).

Well then, isn't this an indication that "Cancel" simply isn't supported by Google calendars? Hence, if Google doesn't offer it Lightning can't magically provide it.

Fair enough. It's still remains a *data-loss* issue. Lightning should handle this case more gracefully (i.e., prevent google from deleting the event). Either:
- deactivate the "Cancel" function in the UI for google calendars
- add the text "Canceled:" to the beginning of the Title of the event.
- inform the user that google (and other calendar providers?) treat "cancel" as a "delete".
But never silently allow events to be deleted when the user has not explicitly chosen to delete them.

Aren't there separate Lightning locales for en-US and en-UK? If so (and there should be), then it *should* be a bug - even where you're from. :-P -- Regards,

So since there is only an en-US build, then that build should spell the Status correctly according to it locale, namely the en-US way: "canceled". -- Regards,
