Subject: Effect of electric field and ultrasound for transdermal drug delivery

        Subject:   Dangerous Drugs/Dangerous Environment   -
Drugs...enhancement by electric fields  (U.S. Patent)

The information copied below is from a patent application regarding
enhancement of transdermal medication -- i.e., a method to increase
the absorption of drugs through skin.

I recently refused to use the Exelon patch on my husband, Bud.  He
suffers from "Reactive Dementia" (my phrase and opinion].   Those on
this list know that Bud improved after I removed his electric clock
radio off his nightstand, started him on nightly melatonin and later
    discontinued his statin (Lipitor).     See:
    http://freepage.twoday.net/stories/3038870/   .........

One of the adverse side effects of the Exelon patch is "seizures."
Our brains are electric.   It is well-known that symptoms of
epilepsy can be altered by changing electric fields.    One of the
    complications of Alzheimers is "seizures."

In addition to that knowledge, I also reasoned that drug
manufacturers do not know what sort of adverse synergystic reactions
occur as result of using the Exelon patch while also sleeping close
to two high voltage powerlines every night (master bedroom w/in 50
ft. of the highlines).  Our neighborhood is surrounded by numerous
cellular antennae as well as several WiFi installations.    It is
also not known what other adverse effects might occur when taking
additional substances such as blood pressure medications, etc.

The other day, Dr. Gary Kohls, Duluth, Minnesota,   [
    http://www.mindbodymedicineduluth.com/ ], circulated the
    following statin alert link:   http://statinalert.org/mainpage.html
........      Dr. Kohls (an advocate against use of psychotrophic
medications) sent another item regarding shortcomings of the
pharmaceutical industry and added the following comment:

"........Remember, too: Nobody in the drug industry -- not the FDA,
not Big Pharma, nobody! -- has ever tested the long-term safety of
using multiple prescription drugs in combination.  These chemical
cocktails of two, five or a dozen prescription drugs are extremely
toxic to the liver, kidneys and other organs, and there is zero
scientific evidence showing them to be safe for long-term combined
    consumption by consumers."

I would add to Dr. Kohl's concerns above that it is essential to
also evaluate all medications under conditions simulating electric
field exposures such as occur from sleeping close to electric
clocks, fans, monitors, electric and gas meters, cordless phone
transformers, cell phones and chargers, etc. including but not
limited to improper wiring, currents on waterpipes and high
    frequencies on electrical wiring.

Almost every other person I meet lately either knows someone or is
himself or herself, "sleeping on top of a cell phone!"

If electric fields enhance absorption and effects of medications
that are administered via a skin patch, imagine what is happening to
cells in humans and animals who consume any of today's drugs  --
most of which have long lists of adverse effects including "death"
--  and on top of that, most likely take other  medications whether
prescribed or over-the-counter, in addition to sleeping close to
    electric and/or telephone equipment!

Only "accountability," "prudent avoidance,"  and an "informed
public," will help slow increases in Alzheimers, Parkinsons, M.S.,
Type II diabetes, childhood Leukemia, brain cancer, autism-spectrum
disorders and on and on........ as well as the endless numbers of
symptoms preceding and following most of these largely avoidable
    disorders and diseases.

    Take care everyone    -    Joanne

Effect of electric field and ultrasound for transdermal drug
delivery   -  United States Patent 6041253

*ABSTRACT:*
*Transdermal transport of molecules during sonophoresis (delivery or
extraction) can be further enhanced by application of an electric field,
for example, electroporation or iontophoresis. In a preferred embodiment
the ultrasound is low frequency ultrasound which induces cavitation of
the lipid layers of the stratum corneum (SC). This method provides
higher drug transdermal fluxes, allows rapid control of transdermal
fluxes, and allows drug delivery or analyte extraction at lower
ultrasound intensities than when ultrasound is applied in the absence of
an electric field.     [ snip ]*

Note:   The paragraphs below is a small part of the info re above
patent.....access below re webpage.....jcm 5-4-08

*Transdermal transport of molecules* *during sonophoresis (delivery or
extraction) can be further* *enhanced by the application of an electric
field, for example, by iontophoresis or electroporation. In a preferred
embodiment, the ultrasound is low frequency ultrasound which induces
cavitation of the lipid layers of the stratum corneum (SC). This method
i) provides higher transdermal fluxes, ii) allows rapid control of
transdermal fluxes, and iii) allows drug delivery or analyte extraction
at lower ultrasound intensities than required in the absence of an
electric field. Still further enhancement can be obtained using a
combination of chemical enhancers and/or magnetic field with the
electric field and ultrasound.*

*Examples using two model compounds, calcein and sulphorhodamine,
demonstrate that transdermal transport enhancement induced by
simultaneous application of ultrasound and electric pulses is higher
than that due to electric pulses or ultrasound alone. Application of
ultrasound reduces the threshold voltage required for the onset of
calcein and sulphorhodamine transport in the presence of electric fields. *
